Anchorage zookeepers have bought a 7.3-tonne treadmill to keep its elephant from getting fat during the long, cold Alaskan winters.
The 6m device, based on race horse treadmills, was designed for 23-year-old female Maggie, deemed "slightly heavy" for an African elephant.
Critics urged the zoo to send Maggie to a warmer climate away from the near-Arctic.
