Lake Taupo

Situation:

A low and trough approaches from the southwest and moves onto the country today. The trough weakens tomorrow and a ridge of high pressure moves onto the South Island. High pressure prevails across the country on Friday. Over the weekend a deep tropical low approaches the North Island from the north. Meanwhile, a front approaches the far south of the South Island late in the day and the ridge of high pressure remains over central New Zealand.

Today: Northeast 20 knots, easing to 15 knots in the afternoon, then to northerly 10 knots in the evening. Waves 1 metre easing to less than half a metre. Poor visibility in rain, possibly very poor in downpours and thunderstorms from morning, easing in the evening.

Thursday: Northerly 10 knots, easing to variable 5 knots in the morning. Partly cloudy.
