KEY POINTS:
A boy has died after being shot in a pub car park in Liverpool, police said on Wednesday.
The victim was 11 years old, according to media reports.
"A boy has been fatally shot near to the Fir Tree public house in Croxteth this evening," said a spokeswoman for Merseyside Police.
She said police were called to the scene shortly after 7.30pm (1830 GMT) and that an investigation was under way.
No further details were immediately available from the police.
The BBC, citing local police sources, said the boy had been playing football with two others in the pub car park when a male teenager cycled past and fired three shots, one of which hit the boy and another hit a car.
The shooting comes on a day when opposition Conservative Party leader David Cameron said Britain was suffering a crisis of law and order.
