An Australian man had 80 per cent of his stomach removed and underwent seven sessions of chemotherapy only to be later told he didn't have cancer.
New South Wales resident Graham Lord, 59, is suing the Central Coast Local Health District for the misdiagnosis, News Ltd reports.
A statement of claim has been lodged in the NSW Supreme Court, after an alleged bungle at a Gosford Hospital pathology lab led to the operation.
Mr Lord said that six weeks after undergoing a gastrectomy at Sydney's Royal NorthShore Hospital in January 2010, he was told he did not have cancer.
He has launched the legal claim for injury, loss and damage from the alleged misdiagnosis through lawyers Maurice Blackburn.
