WARSAW - Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk's office was evacuated yesterday after an unexploded World War Two mortar shell was found during renovation, a minister at the chancellory said.
Tusk, who took power last week after winning an October general election, was at the chancellory during the evacuation and left the building safely.
"There was an old piece of munition found, and we were told to leave the building. Prime Minister Tusk was the last to leave," said Slawomir Nowak, head of Tusk's political cabinet. "The government is in no danger."
Government spokeswoman Agnieszka Liszka said a police bomb squad was called after the discovery.
