Five Britons abducted in Iraq, 10 US troops killed
BAGHDAD - Gunmen in police uniforms kidnapped five Britons in Baghdad and the deaths of 10 US soldiers were announced, making May the deadliest month for the US military in more than two years.
The gunmen seized the Britons from a Finance Ministry building in eastern Baghdad. Two ministry employees who witnessed the kidnapping said at least one computer expert and several bodyguards were taken in the daylight raid.

US isolates traveller infected with rare tuberculosis
WASHINGTON - The United States has placed in isolation a man who may have exposed fellow passengers and crew on two May trans-Atlantic flights to a tuberculosis strain that is extremely hard to treat, officials said today.
It was first time the US government has issued such an isolation order since 1963, when it took action against a smallpox patient, according to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
The man, a US citizen from the state of Georgia, is suffering from extensive drug-resistant TB, known as XDR TB, which resists virtually all antibiotics, the CDC said. Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection that usually attacks the lungs.

Bush tightens sanctions on Sudan over Darfur
WASHINGTON - President George W. Bush imposed new US sanctions on Sudan and sought support for an international arms embargo out of frustration at Sudan's refusal to end what he called a genocide in Darfur.
"The people of Darfur are crying out for help, and they deserve it," Bush said.
Accusing the Sudanese government of obstructing UN efforts to bring peace to Darfur, Bush said the US Treasury Department would bar 31 companies controlled by Sudan from doing business in the US financial system.
