'Deranged' man tries to jump on Pope's jeep
VATICAN CITY - A 27-year-old German man described by the Vatican as "clearly deranged" leaped over a barricade and tried to jump on to Pope Benedict's open-topped jeep.
The man took the German Pope's bodyguards by surprise in St Peter's Square, coming within a meter of the pontiff in an episode that brought back memories of the assassination attempt against his predecessor Pope John Paul in 1981.

McCanns forced to deny claims they might be suspects
The parents of Madeleine McCann were forced to deny involvement in their daughter's abduction, after a German journalist suggested that their actions since her disappearance had led many people to suspect them.
Kate McCann looked aghast and her husband Gerry's voice shook with emotion in response to comments by experienced radio journalist Sabine Mueller at the start of the couple's visit to Berlin to raise awareness of Madeleine's kidnap 35 days ago.
The couple said they had never before heard that anyone considered them suspects, and that the Portuguese police did not.

Cyclone Gonu batters Gulf states, thousands evacuated
Cyclone Gonu made landfall in Iran today, packing winds of 200kmh and forcing the evacuation of tens of thousands of people, agency Agence France-Press reported.
The cyclone hit Oman earlier in the day, halting oil and gas exports for a second day and forcing thousands to flee the coast, but weakened as it moved through the Arabian Sea, a major route for Gulf oil shipments.
