KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) A team from the World Bank says Jamaica must strengthen its legislature to better oversee public finances.
The World Bank says the Jamaican Parliament's infrastructure is "woefully inadequate" and undermines the work of lawmakers and staff.
A report by the bank says the oversight of public finances is often affected by "relatively mundane" matters such as documents arriving late. It also says lawmakers would benefit from a "deeper understanding of financial matters" and calls for training programs.
The government of the heavily indebted Caribbean country requested the World Bank research.
A copy of the report was made available Wednesday, a day after it was delivered to the legislature.
