KEY POINTS:
The body of a man believed to have been dead for nearly a decade has been found in a British flat where a council tenant continued to live.
Council workers found the corpse, the tenant's former lodger, on a sofa after neighbours reported a foul smell. The dead man's identity has not been released but police said he was believed to have been in his 70s.
The tenant who remained living in the property was arrested in connection with the discovery but police are no longer treating the death as suspicious. It is believed the tenant, also in his 70s, has severe mental health problems.
Bristol City Council has launched an inquiry to establish how the corpse went unnoticed for so long. A council spokesman said it was believed the body had been there at least eight years.
