A Sydney man has appeared in court after allegedly holding a woman captive and forcing her to work as a prostitute, using a Taser to control her.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Haytham Abuquta appeared in Parramatta Bail Court yesterday charged with aggravated sexual assault on a 29-year-old woman.
Police documents showed the woman was working in a brothel when she met Abuquta.
After striking up a friendship, he "convinced" her to move in with him. He then allegedly took her cell phone and passport.
The woman said Abuquta forced her to work as a prostitute in different brothels for up to 18 hours a day for more than a year.
She said he told her that she owed him $20,000, and the money she earned was kept by him.
It is also alleged that he forced her to have sex with him.
