Woman accused of heroin in sneakers

A woman has been caught trying to smuggle 1.4kg of heroin into Australia in her sneakers, authorities say.

Customs officers stopped the woman - who had arrived at Sydney Airport on a flight from Vietnam on Sunday - for a baggage search but became suspicious and x-rayed her shoes and found heroin hidden in the soles.

A 56-year-old woman has been charged with importing a marketable quantity of a border-controlled drug.
