Snow falls over the Houses of Parliament in London as Britons braced themselves for the coldest weather of the winter. Snow also covered northern areas, making driving treacherous. Severe weather warnings were issued for northeast England, Yorkshire and Northern Ireland. The late winter cold snap is blamed on high pressures over Scandinavia and northern Europe. The cold spell is expected to last until next weekend.
