The US President's eldest son, Donald Trump jnr, exchanged private messages with WikiLeaks on Twitter last year, the Atlantic reports.
Writer Julia Ioffe reports that the correspondence was given to US lawmakers in Congress investigating possible Russian interference in the 2016 US election.
She writes: "WikiLeaks made a series of increasingly bold requests, including asking for Trump's tax returns, urging the Trump campaign on Election Day to reject the results of the election as rigged, and requesting that the president-elect tell Australia to appoint Julian Assange ambassador to the United States".
According to the Atlantic, the "largely one-sided" correspondence continued until July 2017 and mostly involved WikiLeaks sending messages to Trump jnr that he didn't respond to. But, the Atlantic writes, "he at times appears to have acted on its requests ... At no point during the 10-month correspondence does Trump jnr rebuff WikiLeaks".
WikiLeaks published stolen emails from the US Democratic National Committee and Democrat Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta ahead of the election. The US intelligence community has linked the releases to a Russian Government attempts to interfere in the election. WikiLeaks has denied any connections to the Kremlin.
