Former Finance Minister Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf took an early lead in Liberia's presidential runoff but former soccer star rival George Weah denounced the poll as fraudulent.
The National Elections Commission said that with votes from around a third of all polling stations counted, Johnson-Sirleaf had 60.4 per cent and Weah had 39.6 per cent.
Weah said the election was "full of irregularities" and he produced ballot papers he said had been tampered with. "We have substantial evidence of election fraud."
