Watch: Driver deliberately hits man

This is the shocking moment a man was thrown 15ft into the air after a car ploughed into him in an horrific hit-and-run attack which police are treating as attempted murder.

Detectives have released the footage in an attempt to track down the culprit - who circled round the car park before trying to run the man over again only for him to move out of the way at the last moment.

The victim, 30, suffered from a broken pelvis and serious leg injuries and currently remains in a stable condition at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

Norfolk Police have released the clear footage of the incident which happened in the Vicarage Car Park in North Walsham in Norfolk at 12.55am Saturday, July 23.

The man was walking through the car park with two friends when a small, dark coloured car, believed to be a blue Peugeot 307, appears to have have been driven at him intentionally.

One of the friends managed to run out of the way and another threw an object at the car after the victim has been knocked to the ground.

Following the incident the car made off from the car park at speed towards Bacton Road and it is believed there were up to three other people in the car.

A 43-year-old man from the Wymondham area has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He is currently on police bail pending further inquiries.

Local residents said the car park had previously had a "reputation for anti-social behaviour" but there had been no problems in recent years, according to the Eastern Daily Press.

The car park was also described as a popular spot for people playing Pokemon Go on their mobile phones, although there is no evidence to suggest this was going on at the time of the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Stu Armes said: "The footage we have released today is shocking and I appreciate some people could find it distressing.

"However it reflects the seriousness of the incident and how it could have had potentially fatal consequences for the victim.

"The victim has suffered serious injuries and has been left extremely distressed by his ordeal.

"Whilst the motivation for the incident remains unclear, we are treating it as attempted murder and at this time we believe it is an isolated incident.

"We are appealing to the public to assist us with our investigation. We have made a number of inquiries so far; however, we are keen to locate the car involved in this collision and would appeal for anyone who may know of its whereabouts to contact police.

"We are also appealing for help to identify the driver of the car or the passengers who were in the vehicle at the time of the incident."
