Fiji's president Ratu Josefa Iloilo is urging voters to accept the results of the general election. Manual counting of votes began yesterday, and a clearer picture of which party will form the next Government is expected to emerge today.
Racial tension between the Indigenous Fijians and the ethnic Indian population has divided the country and sparked three coups since 1987.
Fiji correspondent Vijay Narayan says the military is backing the president's call to accept the outcome of the election. He says the military has stressed it will ensure whoever comes in as prime minister to form the new Government remains in office.
