HANOI, Vietnam (AP) A Vietnamese court has sentenced two business executives to death for their roles in a scandal that caused millions of dollars in losses to the state.
State-run newspaper Thanh Nien said Saturday that Vu Quoc Hao, former director of a leasing company under a state-owned bank, Agribank, was convicted of embezzling $3.8 million and sentenced to death Friday in southern Ho Chi Minh City.
The report says that the court also sentenced businessman Dang Van Hai to death for appropriating $3 million, while nine others including Hao's staff and three other businessmen were given jail terms ranging from three to 14 years for mismanagement or abuse of power.
It says the case caused losses of $25 million to the state.
