Former Victorian Premier John Brumby has formally announced he is quitting politics, saying it is the right time to resign, the Melbourne Age reports.
The announcement brings an end to Brumby's 17-year Victorian political career and will force a by-election in his electorate of Broadmeadows.
Mr Brumby made the announcement outside Treasury Place, the offices his former government inhabited until its dramatic ousting.
"I believe it's the right decision for the Parliament, the people of Broadmeadows and for my family."
