Victoria bush fire: 'It's too late to leave'

Firefighters are battling dangerous conditions as they try to stop a fast moving, out-of-control grassfire in northern Victoria.

The Department of Environment and Primary Industries has issued an emergency warning for Mystic Park, Lake Charm and Kangaroo Lake.

The grassfire is travelling in an easterly direction from Third Marsh towards Kangaroo Lake Road and Grey Road.

Crews are holding the fire west of the railway line, but conditions are dangerous.

Forty trucks are on the scene.

Residents are being told that it's too late to leave.

"You are in danger, act now to protect yourself," DEPI warned on Monday.

"It is too late to leave. The safest option is to take shelter indoors immediately."

For those who can't get indoors, other last resort options include a large open area like a ploughed paddock or a large body of water.

Those away from home are being told not to return today.
