KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) A van accident in rural western Nepal left eight people dead and nine more injured Tuesday when the vehicle skidded off a mountain road and tumbled down into a valley, police said.
The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle on the narrow gravel road linking villages in the area, said police official Shyam Krishna Adhikari.
Police are investigating the accident, which happened near Lekhaphat village about 200 kilometers (125 miles and the injured have been taken to nearby towns for treatment.
The driver was among those killed in the accident.
Poorly maintained vehicles and roads are major reason behind vehicle accidents in mountainous Nepal.
