A man accused of firing shots at the White House in an attempt to kill President Barack Obama is competent to stand trial, says a preliminary psychiatric screening.
Federal prosecutors filed a motion yesterday requesting more extensive tests in the event that his mental health becomes an issue.
An initial 50-minute evaluation by a court-appointed psychiatrist found that Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, 21, is competent to understand the proceedings against him and to help with his defence, said the prosecutors' motion.
