US soldier killed in Iraq, four hurt

CAMP DOHA, Kuwait - A US soldier was killed and four wounded in an attack near the Iraqi town of Tikrit on Saturday involving a rocket-propelled grenade and small arms fire, the US military said.

It said the injured soldiers were evacuated by helicopter and ambulance to military medical facilities in the area. The soldiers' names and unit were not given.

US Central Command said in a separate statement that one soldier had been killed and two injured on Friday in a vehicle accident north of Baghdad.

A US Navy engineer also died on Friday and three others were injured south of Baghdad when unexploded ordnance they were handling blew up.

The Pentagon expressed concern this week at a recent spate of deadly postwar accidents in Iraq involving US troops.
