US presidential candidate bows out

The Republican Governor of Mississippi, a former lobbyist and party insider, bowed out of presidential contention yesterday.

The surprise announcement thins a Republican cluster of a dozen potential candidates to take on Democratic President Barack Obama next year.

Governor Haley Barbour had been laying the groundwork for a campaign for months.
