US piles pressure on Pakistan

The United States has broken off high-level contact with Pakistan as it increases pressure on Islamabad to free an American official who shot dead two Pakistanis, according to sources from both countries.

Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State, has cancelled a meeting with Pakistan's Foreign Minister and the row threatens talks this month on Afghanistan.

Anti-American feeling has increased in Pakistan during the 12 days Raymond Davis has been held since shooting two men in Lahore, whom he claimed were trying to rob him as he drove alone.

A third man died after being run over by a vehicle sent to rescue Davis.
