US medical errors kill 100,000 a year

Medical errors kill about 100,000 people each year in the US, according to a study published yesterday in the Journal of the Medical Association.

Some hospitals have made significant improvements since a 2000 study found that up to 98,000 deaths a year were caused by negligence, but the death rate has not fallen, researchers found.
