Nine people were arrested yesterday following a two-year investigation into an international sex-trafficking operation which smuggled Asian women into the United States in shipping containers. The US attorney's office said the "highly organised national network prostitution ring" brought women from China, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and Laos. The women were forced to pay debts to smugglers by working in brothels.
