Up-Helly-Aa festival celebrated on Shetland Islands

The Shteland Islands, north of the Scottish mailand, have celebrated the Up-Helly-Aa festival.

Though the event was only introduced by men returning from the Napoleonic Wars in the early 19th century, it commemorates the islands' Viking history.

The festival takes place annually on the last Tuesday of January.
