KEY POINTS:
Fifty thousand copies of teen magazine Dolly are frantically being recalled after a "printing error" saw an uncensored picture of a model's genitalia slip through production.
The May issue of Dolly has been recalled and the publisher is rushing to apply 'too rude" stickers to the offending image, reported the Daily Telegraph.
None of the offending issues made it to New Zealand shelves as the magazine is not due out here until May 1.
A spokesperson for publishing house ACP said the picture was the result of a printing error and the new, censored editions of the magazine would be distributed shortly.
But the Daily Telegraph suggests there was nothing accidental about the image, which showed a young model strutting the runway sans underpants.
The picture had an arrow pointing to the girl's crutch with the caption: "Umm ... we think you forgot something."
Dolly editor Bronwyn McCahon refused to comment on the incident yesterday but posted an apology on the magazine's website.
"I have to apologise for a printing error in the May issue... It's a long story involving mag terms like 'dyelines' and 'corrupted PDFs', but we did cover the area originally, and the little spot we used somehow fell off the page just before printing and we didn't notice."
The May issue of Dolly marked a relaunch of the magazine, which earlier in the week McCahon said was "to give readers more bang for their buck".
