LONDON (AP) British Foreign Secretary William Hague says a U.S.-Russia agreement on destroying Syria's chemical weapons is a "significant step forward."
Hague said there "must now be full and prompt implementation of the agreement, to ensure the transfer of Syria's chemical weapons to international control." And he said all sides should work toward a political solution to Syria's civil war.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced Saturday that they had agreed on a plan to secure and destroy Syria's chemical weapons by mid-2014.
Hague said he would meet with Kerry and French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius in Paris on Monday.
Britain has been one of President Bashar Assad's strongest international critics, but Parliament voted last month not to participate in any military action against Syria.
