LONDON (AP) Prime Minister David Cameron has issued a ringing defense of Britain's place in history after a Russian diplomat reportedly characterized Britain as a small island no one listens to.
Cameron posted the patriotic comments online and spoke out in Britain's defense during a news conference at the Group of 20 summit in St. Petersburg.
He said Britain may be small but that he challenged anyone to find a country "with a prouder history, a bigger heart, or greater resilience."
Cameron went on to cite numerous achievements, starting with having cleared Europe of fascism during World War II, and asserting that Britons had invented "most of the things worth inventing."
Kremlin officials denied having made the disparaging comments, reportedly made to a group of reporters and first reported by BBC.
