KEY POINTS:
KABUL - Two British soldiers and more than 30 Islamist Taleban guerrillas were killed in separate incidents in southern Afghanistan, the British and US military said, the latest clashes in a raging insurgency.
Two other British troops were seriously wounded.
More than 7000 people have been killed during the past 19 months in Afghanistan, the bloodiest period since the Taleban's overthrow in 2001.
Afghanistan is also on course for a record number of suicide bombings in 2007.
Militants carried out 103 suicide attacks between January and the end of August this year, compared to 123 attacks during the whole of 2006, according to a new United Nations report.
"Most probably we will end up with a higher number than 123 for the whole year," UN special representative for Afghanistan Tom Koenigs said.
