WASHINGTON - Two men held for questioning in the suburban sniper shootings around Washington DC were being transferred to the United States Immigration and Naturalisation Service for deportation proceedings, an immigration official said on Monday.
The two -- a 24-year-old Mexican and a 35-year-old Guatemalan who were not further identified -- were taken into custody in Richmond, Virginia, earlier on Monday not far from the site of the latest shooting Saturday evening.
The two were being transferred to the custody of federal immigration officials for pending deportation proceedings for immigration violations, the immigration official said, asking that his name not be used.
