Italian news reports say two Venetian fishermen have been killed in a collision between their fishing boat and a small motorboat in the waters off Venice's Lido sandbar.
The Italian news agency ANSA says four Venetians in their 20s who were aboard the motorboat were treated for minor injuries after the collision late Friday night.
The office of Venice's prosecutor on Saturday was investigating the cause. Sky TG24 said police did alcohol tests on the motorboat's occupants to determine if drinking might have played a role.
The fishermen were described as friends in their 60s who often fished together. ANSA said one fisherman was pronounced dead after arrival at a hospital, while the body of the other was found in the lagoon's waters early Saturday.
