ANKARA, Turkey (AP) Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says he will not cease criticizing Egypt's rulers following Cairo's expulsion of the Turkish ambassador.
Erdogan has been a strong critic of the military coup that toppled Egypt's Islamist President Mohammed Morsi this summer, prompting Egypt on Saturday to downgrade diplomatic relations with Turkey and expelling its ambassador from Cairo. Turkey reciprocated by also downgrading ties and declaring the Egyptian ambassador "persona non grata."
Erdogan told his party's supporters in a speech in Parliament Tuesday that he would not stop "speaking the truth and supporting the people of Egypt just because it upsets the coup leaders."
Erdogan also criticized western countries for not speaking out against the military intervention in Egypt.
