A truck driver has broken down in tears after a jury acquitted him over a crash with a Victorian passenger train that killed 11 people, including New Zealander Nick Parker.
Christian Scholl, 50, was driving a semi-trailer that ploughed into a Melbourne-bound V/Line passenger train at a rail crossing north of Kerang on June 5, 2007.
He pleaded not guilty to 11 counts of culpable driving causing death and eight counts of negligently causing serious injury. A Supreme Court jury deliberated for a day and a half before delivering its verdict yesterday.
