LONDON (AP) A jury at Britain's phone hacking trial has heard testimony that former News of the World editor Rebekah Brooks spoke about the ease of hacking celebrity phones.
Eimear Cook, the former wife of golfer Colin Montgomerie, told the jury Monday that she met Brooks for an intimate lunch in the fall of 2005.
Cook said Brooks told her that listening to celebrities' voicemails "was so easy to do" and that it was "ludicrous" that stars would not reset their factory-issued voicemail pins to make their messages more secure.
Brooks, former News of the World editor Andy Coulson and six others are on trial on hacking-related charges, which they deny.
A lawyer for Brooks accused Cook of lying to the jury, which she denied.
