A rare 30kg Kemp's ridley turtle was released into the Gulf of Mexico yesterday - its usual sea habitat - after a long journey since 2008 when it was found stranded on a beach in The Netherlands.
Marine experts think the turtle got swept up in the powerful Gulf Stream and carried off to Europe. It has spent time in the Rotterdam Zoo, an aquarium in Portugal, and was eventually flown to Miami. It now has a satellite tracking system.
