JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) A passenger train slammed into a minibus that was carrying families of hajj pilgrims on Indonesia's Java island on Tuesday, killing 13 people and severely injuring six others, police said.
West Java police spokesman Col. Martinus Sitompul said the collision occurred at an unguarded crossing in Jenkok village in Indramayu district. The minibus was packed with 19 people who were returning from sending off hajj pilgrims.
He said four children and the driver of the minibus were among the fatalities. The train was traveling from Jakarta to the Central Java town of Solo.
Train accidents are common on Indonesia's aging railroad network, especially at crossings.
