A 74-year-old Olympic torch bearer died after completing his leg just outside the Hunter Valley town of Muswellbrook in New South Wales.
Ron King, a former professional cyclist, collapsed after finishing his run.
The exuberant celebrations that have followed the torch throughout the state were silenced for a minute yesterday when King was remembered at Quirindi and Tamworth.
