Queensland Premier Peter Beattie has backed moves to end one of the Australian state's last remaining male bastions.
A committee of Tattersall's Club in Brisbane, of which Beattie is a member, has recommended women be admitted for the first time since the club was established 141 years ago.
A meeting will consider the move following a postal ballot of members.
A similar move was defeated last year by 14 votes.
