KEY POINTS:
BRISBANE - Competition for the 'best job in the world' is narrowing, with the top 50 shortlisted after nearly 35,000 video applications.
Those lucky enough to be shortlisted for the A$150,000, (NZ$190,000) six-month stint as the Hamilton Island caretaker on the Great Barrier Reef were notified overnight.
But their identity remains secret until Tuesday, March 3.
The job, a Tourism Australia campaign to boost the floundering tourist market, attracted applications from more than 200 countries, with the highest number from the US (11,565), followed by Canada (2791), Great Britain (2262) and Australia (2064).
"I think we are safe in saying that this is the most sought-after job in the world," Queensland Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said.
The successful candidate will report on their experiences via a range of communication channels including website and video blogs.
The Top 50 will be narrowed down to a final 11 after a series of online psychometric tests.
