Recent floods in Queensland and northern New South Wales will have spread the cane toad epidemic as they hitch rides on waterways into inland Australia says Rick Shine, Professor of Evolutionary Biology at Sydney University.
He said although some will have drowned, others will have made the best of the situation.
"The toads will be carried down by the floodwaters into arid areas. They're fantastic stowaways. There'll be cane toads turning up in bits of Australia they haven't been seen before."
