Nepal stepped up security and increased police patrols along the border with China ahead of the 50th anniversary tomorrow of the failed Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule.
It will be marked by the thousands of Tibetan refugees living in Nepal.
Government administrator Bhanu Bhakta Pokhrel said the police presence has been increased along the border at Tatopani and the Arniko highway - about 120km north of Kathmandu.
It is the only highway link between Nepal and Tibetan territory in China.
