KEY POINTS:
MADRID - French police arrested three suspected members of the Basque armed separatist group ETA near the French border carrying 120 kg of explosives in a van, according to a Spanish newspaper.
El Pais, citing security sources, said the suspects were stopped close to the Spanish border at the French town of Saint Jean Pied de Port and were also carrying several fire arms.
Neither Spanish security nor government officials were available to comment.
ETA has waged a campaign for independence for the Basque Country over 40 years, killing about 800 people.
