WARSAW, Poland (AP) A Polish lawyer says a third Guantanamo Bay inmate has been given victim status in Poland's investigation of whether the country hosted a secret CIA prison where inmates were subject to harsh treatment.
Mariusz Paplaczyk told The Associated Press on Thursday that he has been allowed to examine the investigation files. According to procedure, this means that investigators consider his client, Walid bin Attash, as a possible victim of mistreatment in Poland.
Spokesman for the investigators, Piotr Kosmaty, confirmed to the AP that Polish lawyers represent a third victim.
Two other current inmates at Guantanamo Bay Abd al Rahim al-Nashiri and alleged al-Qaida facilitator Abu Zubaydah were earlier given victim status.
Poland's leaders of the time denied hosting a prison. The current government launched the investigation in 2008.
