BRISBANE - Thieves have broken into a Brisbane home and stolen an urn containing the ashes of a man's dead wife.
Police say the thieves broke into a house in the southwestern suburb of Richlands.
Widower Jay Carter told the Ten Network his wife passed away from skin cancer two years ago.
As the couple's baby son James was too young to understand her approaching death, she made a goodbye video and bought a floor safe to keep her personal items secure until he was old enough to understand.
However James never got a chance to see the video, and now it, as well as her wedding ring, ashes and personal documents have been stolen.
No money was in the safe and Mr Carter said the thieves wouldn't be able to get it open anyway.
"One day I hope you don't have to bury your wife, mother, son, daughter, sister, the way I had to bury my wife, so, just give me my safe back," Mr Carter said to the thieves.
