A man bit rings off a woman's finger and indecently assaulted her during a violent robbery in western Sydney.
A 32-year-old woman was walking in a laneway at Bidwill about 12.05am (AEDT) on Sunday when a man grabbed her throat from behind, police said.
The woman was forced to the ground and a sharp object was pushed against her back.
The man demanded money and threatened to stab the woman, before indecently assaulting her.
He then demanded she remove rings from one of her fingers, and when the woman said they were too tight to remove, he bit down hard and removed them.
The man then fled the scene and the woman was taken to Nepean Hospital, where she was treated for an injury to her finger and minor abrasions.
About an hour later, police went to a hotel at Bidwill.
A 31-year-old man barricaded himself inside a toilet and was subdued with capsicum spray before being arrested.
He is expected to be charged with aggravated armed robbery causing actual bodily harm, aggravated indecent assault, assaulting police and breaching an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO).
