Sydney police are looking for a group of males after a teenager was shot dead in the city's west this morning.
An emergency call just before 5am alerted police and paramedics to the incident at Greenfield Park.
The caller reported hearing a number of shots fired.
On arriving they found a boy badly wounded and, despite attempts to revive him, he died at the scene.
Fairfield police acting Commander Murray Johnston says a group of males had entered the home before the shooting.
"Occupants of a residence in Smithfield Road, Greenfield Park answered a knock at the door," he said.
"They were confronted by three to four males where a number of words were exchanged.
"After that a number of shots were fired and a 17-year-old resident of the premises sustained fatal wounds."
Police have closed streets in the vicinity as they conduct investigations.
