BEIJING - A woman who slipped rat poison into food at a tax office canteen in central China, killing one person and injuring 11, has killed herself using poison, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
Earlier this month, 12 staff members of a tax office in Xiantao, in Hubei province, fell sick after eating noodles and soy milk at the office canteen. A 30-year-old man later died, Xinhua said.
Investigations found that a 49-year-old staff member surnamed Hu had put rat poison in the breakfast's sesame butter, the agency reported, citing police officials.
"Hu's body was found at a hotel in Xiantao on October 19 and investigations show that she killed herself by taking poison," Xinhua quoted a police spokesman as saying.
Police suspected that Hu had poisoned her colleagues "out of resentment", Xinhua said.
The remaining 11 victims would be discharged from hospital soon, the agency said.
Last month, a Chinese court in the central province of Henan issued a death sentence for a woman who killed her lover with a rat poison-laced kiss when she suspected him of being unfaithful.
