The race to save the endangered Tasmanian devil from extinction has suffered a serious scientific setback.
A devil named Cedric, thought immune to the invariably fatal, contagious devil facial tumour disease (DFTD), has developed the cancer, scientists say.
Cedric had for two years shown astrong antibody response to the devastating disease that experts warn could cause the extinction of the marsupial in the wild by 2020.
